Iceland spar, or optical calcite, is a transparent variety of calcite, or crystallized calcium carbonate, originally brought from Iceland, and used in demonstrating the polarization of light. It occurs in large readily cleavable crystals, easily divisible into rhombuses, and is remarkable for its double refraction. A ray of unpolarized light passing through the crystal divides into two rays of perpendicular polarization directed at different angles, called double refraction. This means that objects seen through the crystal appear doubled.
It is believed that Vikings used Iceland spar's light-polarizing property to tell the direction of the sun during cloudy days, which assisted in navigating their ships.
Iceland Spar is known for assisting with clarity, insight, manifestation, enhancement, power, and intention programming. It's a stone for finding solutions as it will aid in seeking the root of the problem and removing it. Iceland Spar is also a perfect meditation stone due to its ability to realign chakras and cleanse one's aura.
